The Vermont Department of Health is working to officially document the presence of Lone Start Ticks in Vermont.

The VDH says this is because, “Lone star ticks can transmit diseases that we don’t see very often in Vermont, like ehrlichiosis and tularemia. They are also more aggressive than other types of ticks…. If we can learn more about where they might be, we can help Vermonters take steps to stay healthy.”

Visit the Vermont Department of Health’s Project Lone Star Tick page and click on “Found a Lone Star Tick? Here’s What to Do” for information on collecting and mailing the tick to the VDH. If you cannot mail the tick, another option is to email a clear photo of the tick to [email protected].
